Adobe has acquired Rilo, an Indian marketing intelligence startup, in a deal focused on obtaining its technology and small team rather than maintaining it as a standalone product. The financial terms weren’t disclosed, but investors will see an exit. Rilo will shut down post-acquisition.
What Rilo Brings to the Table
Founded in 2025 by two IIT alumni, Rilo built tools aimed at automating marketing workflows. Its platform offered features such as competitor analysis, reusing and distributing content, and analyzing sales calls. Users could set up custom workflows similar to those found in tools like Claude Cowork and ChatGPT Work. Adobe plans to roll portions of Rilo’s intellectual property and its six-person team into its larger product portfolio for enterprise clients.
Strategic Context for Adobe
This marks Adobe’s second Indian acquisition since 2023, following its purchase of the video platform Rephrase.ai. The move underscores Adobe’s drive to deepen its footprint in AI-powered marketing and customer experience offerings. With Rilo’s workflow automation tech, Adobe could sharpen its edge under pressure from rivals like Canva, as well as from cloud giants building their own marketing tools.
Rilo had raised about $1 million in seed funding at a $10 million valuation. Investors included PeakXV, DeVC, and Day Zero Ventures. There’s confirmation they will receive returns through the acquisition.
Although Adobe confirmed the acquisition, it declined to offer further public comment. Meanwhile, Rilo’s founders and backers say the startup’s workflow builder was already “ahead of the curve,” and that its capabilities fit into Adobe’s existing CX and marketing automation suite.
The acquisition reflects broader shifts in marketing tech, where companies demand automation across creation, deployment, and monitoring of campaigns, plus analytics that tie directly into workflow and sales processes.
What this means:Adobe’s acquisition of Rilo reveals its urgency to bring in more workflow automation and AI-driven insights into its marketing and customer experience tools. As generative AI reshapes expectations, Adobe is betting that ingesting startups like Rilo speeds up innovation more than internal development. Going forward, watch how quickly Adobe incorporates Rilo’s features—workflow customization, sales analytics, competitor tracking—into its core product lines, and how that affects competition with companies building their own marketing and CX stacks.
