Google’s Android XR smart glasses arrive in December; preorders start Nov 12

Google and partners Warby Parker and Gentle Monster have locked in the holiday launch window for the first Android XR glasses. Warby Parker confirmed preorders begin on November 12, 2026, with customer deliveries expected during the holiday season, most likely mid-December. The Gentle Monster edition is set to follow a similar release timeline.

What are Android XR “Intelligent Eyewear”?

These upcoming smart glasses—dubbed “Intelligent Eyewear”—are an audio-first take on Google’s Android XR platform. Rather than embedding displays in the lenses, the devices include built-in speakers, microphones, and a camera, and they rely on voice commands and a touchpad on the side of the frame. Software features like Gemini integration—Google’s AI assistant—will enable live translations, audio notifications, photographic capture, and voice control without visible screens.

Who makes what — brands, hardware, and design roles

Samsung handles the hardware, including Qualcomm’s Snapdragon AR1 Gen1 chip for these glasses. Wingmen in design are Warby Parker and Gentle Monster, offering multiple frame shapes and styles. Google provides the Android XR software and Gemini capabilities. Both maker-brands revealed the glasses at Google I/O 2026 in May, then showed additional frame designs at Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event in July.

Preorder, availability, and what we still don’t know

Preorders through Warby Parker will open November 12, 2026. Those placing orders then can expect the devices during the holiday season—mid-December is the date cited in multiple reports. Gentle Monster’s preorder date hasn’t been confirmed publicly, but its calendar aligns with a December launch window. ‭

Certain details remain missing: no pricing has been announced yet, and regions beyond the US and South Korea aren’t confirmed for day-one availability. Also unverified are which phones will be supported, how the camera will handle privacy in practice, and the availability of prescription lenses. ‭

These glasses promise up to nine hours of active use per charge, with an accompanying charging case offering seven additional full charges.

The designs are being previewed: Warby Parker will offer demos in 65 US locations starting the week before preorders begin, expanding to over 360 stores shortly after. Gentle Monster’s edition has been teased with a cinematic short film starring Joaquin Phoenix, directed by Jonathan Glazer.

The Android XR platform initially launched with Samsung’s Galaxy XR headset, but these audio glasses represent its usability broadening into everyday frames. The display-less approach means less visual augmentation for now, but still significant proximity to familiar wearables: imagine hearing notifications, asking Gemini to describe your surroundings, or keeping hands free, all with a discreet frame.

For consumers, the preorder date is coming soon. What’s important is to look out for pricing, phone compatibility, and confirmed availability ahead of December. Warby Parker has solidified the first confirmed preorder window, but Gentle Monster and Google still have to fill in some blanks. All that remains now is seeing if framing these smart glasses within desirable design brands makes them feel more wearable—and less awkward—than past smart eyewear attempts.
