Gemini Task Automation Expands to 40+ Apps on Samsung Devices

At the recent Galaxy Unpacked event, significant enhancements to Google’s Gemini AI were unveiled, particularly benefiting Samsung’s latest foldable devices: the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, Fold 8, and Flip 8.

Enhanced Data Migration for Android Users

These new devices introduce an upgraded native migration experience, enabling users to wirelessly transfer a broader range of data types from an iPhone. This includes Google Account information, passwords, Wi-Fi credentials, and eSIM data, in addition to existing capabilities like transferring photos, videos, contacts, messages, and calendar events. This feature, part of Android 17, is also rolling out to Pixel devices and will soon be available on more Android devices.

Expansion of Gemini Task Automation

Initially launched in beta earlier this year with support for six rideshare and delivery apps on the Pixel 10 and Galaxy S26 series, Gemini’s task automation has now expanded to support over 40 applications. This broader support encompasses categories such as shopping, restaurant reservations, travel bookings, and event ticketing, with notable additions like Etsy and Expedia. Notably, the Galaxy Flip 8 allows users to access this daily life assistance directly from the Flex Window by long-pressing the power button.

Advanced Screen Understanding and Gemini Notebook Integration

The Gemini app has been enhanced with advanced reasoning capabilities, enabling it to comprehend on-screen content and interpret complex images as prompts. This advancement allows users to, for example, show Gemini a shopping list or an inspiration photo to initiate tasks. Additionally, the recently renamed Gemini Notebook comes pre-installed on Samsung’s new foldables. Leveraging the Fold 8’s larger display, users can drag and drop photos, documents, whiteboard images, voice recordings, and more directly into a side-by-side workspace.

Wearable Integration and XR Glasses Preview

On the wearable front, Gemini on the Galaxy Watch 9 can now be activated simply by raising the wrist, a feature that aligns with the functionality of the Pixel Watch 4. Looking ahead, Samsung and Google provided a preview of their upcoming Android XR glasses, showcasing new frame designs from Gentle Monster and Warby Parker, with a planned launch in the fall.

These developments underscore the rapid evolution of AI integration into consumer devices, enhancing user experiences through more intuitive interactions and expanded functionalities. As AI capabilities continue to advance, users can anticipate even more seamless and personalized assistance across their devices.
