General Intuition Seeks $300M Funding at $2B Valuation

General Intuition, a New York-based startup specializing in training AI agents for spatial and temporal navigation, is reportedly in discussions to secure approximately $300 million in funding. This investment would elevate the company’s valuation to just over $2 billion.

Established eight months ago as a spin-off from Medal—a platform renowned for sharing video game clips—General Intuition initially raised $134 million in seed funding. The startup leverages Medal’s extensive dataset, comprising 2 billion videos annually from 10 million monthly active users, to develop AI models capable of real-time interaction and anticipation within simulated environments.

Notable investors such as Jeff Bezos and Eric Schmidt are said to be participating in this funding round, alongside existing backers Khosla Ventures and General Catalyst. The company’s leadership includes founder Pim de Witte, who previously co-founded Medal, and co-founders Eloi Alonso, Adam Jelley, and Vincent Micheli, all of whom bring expertise in world modeling and simulation.

General Intuition’s approach focuses on training AI agents using interactive, first-person gameplay data, aiming to enhance machines’ deep spatial-temporal reasoning abilities. This strategy has reportedly attracted interest from major AI labs, including OpenAI, which previously attempted to acquire Medal.

The world model sector is becoming increasingly competitive, with companies like Runway, Decart, and World Labs releasing their own models. Additionally, Google’s Genie 3 has begun integrating Google Maps data to enhance real-world simulation capabilities. While many of these firms target gaming and robotics training as immediate commercial applications, General Intuition differentiates itself by focusing on developing AI agents as its primary product, utilizing its unique dataset to achieve viability.

The anticipated funding is expected to bolster General Intuition’s computational resources, facilitating the release of a new product by late summer or early fall.

As the AI industry continues to evolve, General Intuition’s innovative use of extensive interactive datasets positions it as a significant player in the development of advanced AI agents.
