Google has announced significant updates to its Calendar and Voice services, enhancing user customization and productivity. Google Calendar now offers an expanded palette of up to 200 event colors, a substantial increase from the previous limit of 11 predefined options. This enhancement allows users to personalize their schedules more effectively and organize events with greater visual clarity.
By default, users can select from 24 colors across all platforms. For those seeking more precise customization, a full RGB color picker is available on the web and through the Calendar API. This update addresses a longstanding request from both personal and business users for more flexible event color options. The rollout begins today and is expected to reach all users in the coming weeks.
In parallel, Google Voice has introduced an AI-powered feature named “Take notes for me,” designed to augment call recording capabilities for enterprise customers. This feature utilizes Google’s Gemini AI to transcribe calls, summarize key points, and organize action items, mirroring functionalities previously available in Google Meet.
During calls, the traditional “Record” button has been replaced with a “Notes” button. Activating this feature prompts a disclosure stating, “This call is being recorded and captured by AI.” Administrators have the ability to customize this consent message to align with their organization’s standards. After the call concludes, users can access the transcript, audio recording, and notes within the Voice app, with the notes also being emailed to their account.
The “Take notes for me” feature is available to users with the Voice Standard and Voice Premier add-ons, as well as those on the Voice Standard standalone plans. While it is enabled by default for new Voice users, existing users will need to manually activate the feature.
These updates reflect Google’s ongoing commitment to enhancing user experience and productivity across its suite of services. The expanded color options in Google Calendar cater to users’ desires for greater personalization, while the AI-driven note-taking in Google Voice streamlines communication management for enterprise clients. As these features roll out, users can anticipate a more tailored and efficient interaction with Google’s tools.
