YouTube Introduces ‘Auto Speed’ and ‘On-the-Go’ Features for Premium Users
YouTube is enhancing its platform by introducing two experimental features exclusively for Premium subscribers: Auto Speed and On-the-Go. These additions aim to refine the viewing experience by offering adaptive playback speeds and a motion-responsive interface.
Auto Speed:
The Auto Speed feature dynamically adjusts the playback speed of a video based on its content. For instance, in instructional videos like cooking tutorials, the playback may speed up during repetitive tasks and slow down during critical steps, ensuring viewers receive information at an optimal pace. This feature is currently available only in English and is limited to supported videos. When applicable, an Auto option will appear in the playback speed settings; otherwise, it remains hidden.
On-the-Go:
On-the-Go introduces a motion-activated interface reminiscent of YouTube Music’s design. When the app detects continuous movement for at least 60 seconds, it prompts users to switch to this streamlined interface, which features larger controls and a simplified layout for easier navigation during activities like walking or commuting. Users can also manually activate this mode via the video settings.
Both features are currently in the experimental phase and are available exclusively on Android devices for Premium subscribers. Users can test these features until April 27, after which YouTube will evaluate their performance and user feedback to determine potential broader implementation.
