Wall-Mounted HomeView Needs a 20W+ USB-C Adapter — Here’s Why

Apple has clarified a power requirement for the Wall-Mounted version of HomeView: the device doesn’t ship with a power adapter in the box. Buyers will need to purchase one that meets specific USB-C specifications in order to avoid performance warnings. The support update also explains why some users might see a “Not Enough Power” message otherwise.

HomeView vs Wall-Mounted: What’s Different

The standard HomeView includes both a mount and a power adapter,—but the wall-mounted model omits these. Instead, Apple offers separate mount options starting at $59, with a third expected in early 2027. Power accessories are completely optional and sold separately.

Power Specs to Watch

Apple’s support document sets clear minimum power adapter requirements for HomeView (Wall Mounted). The adapter must be USB-C, supply at least 20W, and support 9V at 2.22A or higher. If those parameters aren’t met, users may see a warning alerting them that power is insufficient.

For context, the non-wall-mounted HomeView model needs a more powerful adapter: at least 30W and support for 15V at 2A or more.

Mounting Alternatives & Wiring Options

Depending on which third-party mount you choose, you may connect HomeView directly to a wall’s electrical wiring (hardwiring), bypassing the need for a separate power adapter. However, if not hardwired, a USB-C cable and adapter matching the above spec must be used.

This clarification ensures that anyone picking up the wall-mounted model knows exactly what accessory specs are needed to ensure full functionality. Without the right power source, even basic operation could be affected.

What this means: The split between HomeView versions is more than just physical—it’s power. Buyers must budget not only for the device and the mount but also for a compliant power adapter, or plan to hardwire. Going forward, prospective HomeView users should verify adapter ratings before buying to avoid compatibility issues.
