Sony Plans WH-1000XM4 Re-Release at Lower Price Point

Sony is reportedly preparing to reintroduce its acclaimed WH-1000XM4 over-ear headphones, originally launched in 2020, with a refreshed model named the WH-1000XM4C. This move aims to offer consumers a high-quality audio experience at a more accessible price point.

The WH-1000XM4C is expected to maintain the core features that made the original model popular, including industry-leading noise cancellation and superior sound quality. However, there are indications of a slight reduction in battery life, with the new version offering up to 34 hours of playback compared to the original’s 38 hours. Additionally, the refreshed lineup will introduce a new color option, Lavender, alongside the existing Platinum Silver and Black variants.

One of the most notable aspects of this re-release is the anticipated pricing strategy. The WH-1000XM4C is projected to be priced at €249.99 in Europe and £219.99 in the UK. Based on these figures, it’s reasonable to expect a U.S. price point around $250. This is a significant reduction compared to Sony’s current flagship model, the WH-1000XM6, which retails for approximately $450.

The decision to reintroduce the WH-1000XM4 at a lower price point reflects Sony’s strategy to cater to a broader audience seeking premium audio experiences without the premium price tag. By offering a slightly updated version of a well-regarded model, Sony aims to capture market segments that may have been deterred by the higher cost of newer models. This approach not only extends the lifecycle of the WH-1000XM4 but also reinforces Sony’s commitment to providing quality audio products across various price ranges.
