Sonos is reportedly preparing to release the Ace Ultra, an advanced version of its 2024 Ace headphones, featuring enhanced artificial intelligence capabilities. This development follows the company’s initial foray into the headphone market two years ago.
According to recent reports, the Ace Ultra is expected to offer a more premium experience, with potential support for voice commands. An FCC filing has revealed the product name and suggests the availability of up to five color options, expanding beyond the original model’s black and white finishes. The timing of this filing aligns with Sonos’s planned product launch in September, indicating that the Ace Ultra could be unveiled at that event.
Sonos CEO Tom Conrad has acknowledged that the original Ace headphones lacked sufficient whole-home integration and differentiation in a competitive market. To address this, the company is focusing on integrating conversational computing and predictive intelligence into its devices, aiming to create a more cohesive and intelligent home audio experience. This strategy includes expanding Sonos Voice Control to work with smart home systems like Philips Hue and Lutron Caseta.
In the broader market, competitors are also advancing their headphone offerings. Apple, for instance, released the AirPods Max 2 in March, featuring the H2 chip, improved noise cancellation, and Live Translation capabilities. Additionally, Siri AI integration is set to extend to AirPods as part of the upcoming iOS 27 update.
The introduction of the Ace Ultra signifies Sonos’s commitment to innovation and its ambition to enhance user experience through AI integration. As the company continues to evolve its product lineup, consumers can anticipate more intelligent and interconnected audio solutions in the near future.
