However, they necessitate the use of specific cases, as the Galaxy devices themselves lack built-in Qi2 magnets.
Qi2, an industry standard akin to Apple’s MagSafe, enables magnetic alignment for wireless charging and accessory attachment. While this standard has been available for several years, its adoption among Android manufacturers has been limited. Samsung has opted to implement ‘Qi2 Ready,’ a program that shifts the magnetic components to compatible cases rather than integrating them directly into the devices.
This approach means that users must purchase additional cases to utilize these magnetic accessories. For instance, the ‘Dual Magnet Holder Slim’ and ‘360 Stand Magnet’ are priced at $35 and $50, respectively, excluding the cost of the necessary cases. Without these cases, the accessories cannot function as intended with Galaxy smartphones.
Samsung’s strategy reflects a commitment to maintaining slimmer device profiles by avoiding the inclusion of internal magnets. However, this decision places the onus on consumers to invest in supplementary accessories to achieve functionality that competitors offer natively. As the industry moves towards standardized magnetic solutions, Samsung’s reliance on external cases may influence consumer preferences and perceptions regarding convenience and value.
