Samsung Unveils Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra: A Leap in Foldable Tech

Samsung has officially introduced the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, marking a significant advancement in its foldable smartphone lineup. This latest addition stands out as the company’s most sophisticated foldable device to date, boasting a series of enhancements in design, performance, and user experience.

Design and Display Enhancements

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra maintains the familiar tall and narrow form factor but introduces notable refinements. It is the slimmest foldable Samsung has produced, measuring just 4.1mm in thickness when unfolded. This reduction is attributed to the new ‘Flex Titanium’ display backing, which replaces plastic components with titanium, enhancing both durability and reliability. Additionally, the visibility of the display crease has been significantly diminished compared to previous models.

Both the external and internal displays have been upgraded to achieve a peak brightness of 3,000 nits. The outer screen remains a 6.5-inch FHD+ AMOLED 2X display, while the inner screen is an 8-inch QXGA+ AMOLED 2X panel. Both support adaptive refresh rates up to 120Hz. The cover display now features Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3 for improved durability.

Performance and Battery Life

Under the hood, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor. It offers configurations with 12GB of RAM for the 256GB and 512GB storage options, and 16GB of RAM for the 1TB variant. A significant upgrade is the 5,000mAh battery, a substantial increase from the previous model’s 4,400mAh capacity. This enhancement is facilitated by the adoption of silicon-carbon battery technology, allowing for higher capacity without increasing the device’s size. The device supports 45W wired charging through a new dual-path charging architecture and offers wireless charging speeds up to 20W.

Camera System

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is equipped with a 200MP main sensor capable of full-resolution HDR photography. The ultra-wide camera has been upgraded to 50MP, aligning with the Galaxy S26 Ultra’s capabilities, and macro photography has seen improvements. Additionally, the device includes a 10MP telephoto lens, distinguishing it from other models in the series.

Software and Features

Running on Android 17 with Samsung’s One UI 9, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra introduces features like Now Brief, Now Nudge, and Gemini Intelligence. These additions aim to enhance user interaction by integrating with over 40 apps and services, providing a more seamless and intelligent user experience.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is priced starting at $2,099 and is available in Graphite, Cream, Violet Shadow, and Green Shadow, with the latter two being online exclusives. Pre-orders are currently open on Samsung’s website, with attractive trade-in offers and deals expected during the initial launch period.

Samsung’s introduction of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra underscores its commitment to advancing foldable technology. The device’s combination of refined design, enhanced performance, and innovative features positions it as a formidable contender in the premium smartphone market. As foldable devices continue to evolve, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra sets a new benchmark for what consumers can expect from this emerging category.
