Redmagic OS 12 (Android-17) Gears Up for Worldwide Rollout

Redmagic is preparing Android-17-based Redmagic OS 12 for release beyond China, and we now know which of its flagship devices will get the update, along with when. The skin brings major visual changes, AI tools, and performance upgrades focused on gaming and multitasking.

Which phones and when

The update is already live in China for eight Redmagic models, starting with the Redmagic 12 Pro+ launch. Users of Redmagic 11 Pro and 11S Pro can expect Android-17 in December 2026; the Redmagic Gaming Tablet 5 Pro follows in January. By March, the Redmagic 10 Pro and 10S Pro series, Redmagic 11 Air, and the Redmagic eSports Tablet 3 Pro will also receive it. Finally, Redmagic 10 Air is set for the new skin in April 2027. While those dates are specific to China, Redmagic plans to issue the global rollout shortly thereafter.

What’s new in Redmagic OS 12

This version introduces a refreshed visual style, drawing inspiration from Liquid Glass design. The lock screen gains a much larger clock and more customization options. The status bar adds a feature similar to Dynamic Island, dubbed “AI Magic Island,” which expands into actionable elements for things like music control or ride-hailing using the Live Updates API.

AI tools take a front seat: users will get a VTuber-style assistant called MORA, alongside an automated task system via the “AI Magic Assistant.” For gamers, there’s an upgraded Game Space app, an Esports Training Arena with reaction and shooting mini-games, the new X-Gravity Platform 3.0, and enhanced live-streaming functions. File transfers to iPhones and smoother connectivity are also part of the update.

When the Redmagic 12 Pro launches globally on November 3, 2026, that model will already be running the Android-17 based skin. That suggests the build is essentially complete, and the company is now preparing device-specific versions for release in other regions.

The rollout represents a significant leap forward for Redmagic’s software game. Android-17 makes big demands in terms of freshness—new visual frameworks, tighter AI integration, and seamless performance under gaming load. For a company known for gaming phones, meeting those expectations is essential. Global users will want both stability and prompt updates.

What this means: Redmagic OS 12 signals Redmagic’s intent to compete wider than niche gaming circles. If these features are well-executed, the brand could challenge premium Android players. Key things to watch for: how stable the AI tools feel off the bat, whether battery life holds up under the revised UI and gaming workloads, and how quickly the global builds arrive after the Chinese launch.
