Recent leaks have unveiled significant hardware upgrades in Google’s upcoming Pixel Watch 5, marking notable improvements over its predecessor.
According to the latest information, the Pixel Watch 5 will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 Accelerated processor. This new chip, yet to be officially announced by Qualcomm, suggests enhanced performance capabilities. Complementing this, the device is expected to feature an increase in RAM from 2 GB to 3 GB and a doubling of internal storage to 64 GB, facilitating smoother multitasking and more extensive app storage.
Battery capacities have seen slight increments, with the 41mm model housing a 332 mAh battery (up from 325 mAh) and the 45mm variant equipped with a 465 mAh battery (up from 455 mAh). Despite these increases, the estimated battery life remains consistent at 30 hours for the smaller model and 40 hours for the larger one, both with the Always-On Display (AOD) activated.
In terms of design, the Pixel Watch 5 is set to introduce a second-generation sport band made from hydrogenated nitrile-butadiene rubber (HNBR), potentially offering enhanced durability and comfort compared to the current fluoroelastomer bands.
The smartwatch will operate on Wear OS 7.0, integrated with Gemini Intelligence, Google’s latest AI platform, promising advanced features and a more intuitive user experience.
Other specifications remain unchanged, including the Actua 360 Display with a peak brightness of 3,000 nits, Bluetooth 6.0, Wi-Fi, NFC, Ultra-Wideband (UWB) support, and water and dust resistance rated at 5 ATM and IP68.
These enhancements position the Pixel Watch 5 as a compelling option in the smartwatch market. The introduction of the ‘Accelerated’ processor and increased memory indicates Google’s commitment to delivering a more powerful and efficient wearable device. However, the unchanged battery life despite larger capacities suggests that the new features may demand more power.
