Google has unveiled Nano Banana 2 Lite, also known as Gemini 3.1 Flash-Lite Image, marking a significant advancement in image generation and editing technology. This model is designed to be Google’s fastest and most cost-efficient solution, capable of generating images in just four seconds. Compared to its predecessor, Nano Banana 2 Lite offers enhanced visual quality and a range of new capabilities.

Key features of Nano Banana 2 Lite include:

  • World Knowledge: The model can swiftly create accurate contextual scenes, rough data visualizations, and location-specific mockups, making it a valuable tool for various applications.
  • Character Consistency: It maintains character identities and object fidelity across multiple generations, facilitating the development of storyboarding tools and virtual try-ons for e-commerce platforms.
  • Quick Text and Localization: The model can render legible text directly into images, allowing for rapid drafting of copy and visualization of typography across different localized ad variations.

In addition to Nano Banana 2 Lite, Google has introduced Gemini Omni Flash, now available in public preview. This model offers advanced features such as conversational editing, multimodal input, world knowledge and simulation, and text and action synchronization. Notably, Gemini Omni Flash can generate audio alongside video outputs, ensuring consistency in character, object, and style. Pricing for this model is set at $0.10 per second of 720p video output.

Both Nano Banana 2 Lite and Gemini Omni Flash are accessible through Google AI Studio and the Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform, providing developers with powerful tools for media generation.

Building on these advancements, NotebookLM is set to introduce Short Video Overviews utilizing Nano Banana 2 Lite. This new feature will offer 60-second portrait videos that combine narrative explanations with educational animations, similar to the previously introduced Cinematic Video Overviews. Users can expect this feature to become available in the coming weeks.

These developments underscore Google’s commitment to enhancing media generation capabilities, offering users more efficient and high-quality tools for content creation. As these technologies become more integrated into platforms like NotebookLM, users can anticipate a more dynamic and engaging experience in processing and presenting information.
