Apple is preparing a redesigned MacBook Pro sometime soon—the first major redesign since that party-starting 2021 refresh. Leaks suggest three big changes are on the way that could reshape the MacBook Pro line.
No More Notch—Hello Hole-Punch & Dynamic Island
The iconic notch that’s defined MacBook Pros since 2021 could be headed for the dustbin. Apple reportedly plans to replace it with a smaller hole-punch cutout for the camera, paired with a Dynamic Island feature—mirroring design trends seen in recent iPhones. The camera punch will be much more subtle than the current pill-shaped notch and is expected to seamlessly integrate into the menu bar region. There’s no indication yet that this notch change will include Face ID.
Thinner, Lighter Footprint
One of the standout promised upgrades is a slimmer, more portable MacBook Pro. Leveraging internal component redesigns with tighter integration and improved layout, Apple aims to make its pro-tier notebooks noticeably lighter. That said, it’s unclear if this streamlining will also mean fewer ports. The current MacBook Pros brought back several from older models, so removing them now could be controversial.
Slightly Larger Screens
The display sizes are being bumped up—if rumors hold, Apple will offer new models with 14.3-inch and 16.3-inch screens, increasing slightly from the 14.2- and 16.2-inch panels Apple uses now. While the extra screen real estate could come simply by trimming bezels, there’s also speculation that the chassis itself may grow a touch to accommodate certain components, even within a slimmer body.
These three updates—no notch, lighter body, and slightly bigger displays—signal a push toward refinement over reinvention. They reflect Apple’s intent to modernize the MacBook Pro aesthetic and usability without straying too far from what professionals rely on.
