Meta has unveiled a new subscription service, Meta One Premium, priced at $20 per month, which introduces usage limits on certain features of its smart glasses. A notable example is the ‘Conversation Focus’ feature, now restricted to three hours of use per month for non-subscribers. Subscribers, however, gain access to 15 hours of usage monthly.
Announced in May, Meta One Premium aims to enhance user experience across various Meta platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, and Meta’s AI technologies. The subscription offers expanded access to features like Conversation Focus and provides premium device support for AI glasses.
Conversation Focus is designed to amplify nearby voices, improving clarity in noisy environments. This functionality operates entirely on-device, utilizing beam-forming microphones and advanced processing without relying on cloud services.
Meta has clarified that core AI features of its smart glasses remain free and that the majority of users are unlikely to exceed the monthly limit for Conversation Focus. The subscription supports ongoing development and offers expanded access for power users, along with premium device support.
Introducing a subscription model for features that operate on-device raises questions about the balance between monetization and user accessibility. As the smart glasses market evolves, it will be crucial to monitor how such strategies impact consumer adoption and satisfaction.
