MediaTek Debuts Dimensity 9600 Pro: 2nm Powerhouse with Major Wins in AI & Graphics

MediaTek has officially unveiled its Dimensity 9600 Pro, a premium smartphone chip built using TSMC’s cutting-edge 2-nanometer fabrication process. With this release, MediaTek positions itself at the forefront of performance, efficiency, and AI capabilities in mobile chip design.

Next-Gen CPU, Memory & GPU Breakthroughs

The Dimensity 9600 Pro adopts a sophisticated 2+3+3 CPU layout: two ultra-powerful C2-Ultra cores running at 4.55 GHz, three C2-Pro cores at 4.35 GHz with 1 MB of L2 cache each, and three more C2-Pro cores clocked at 3.10 GHz with 512 KB of L2 cache each. This setup doesn’t just bring speed—it expands the total L2 cache by around 21% over its predecessor, enabling smoother multitasking and improved data access. MediaTek claims gains of approximately 17% in single-core and 15% in multi-core performance over the last generation.

Among memory and storage advances, the chip introduces LPDDR6 RAM—boosting effective memory bandwidth by about 33% at the same clock speeds—and full UFS 5.0 storage, which doubles read/write speeds versus earlier standards. Graphics also get a significant upgrade: the G2-Ultra NX GPU delivers peak performance that’s some 27% higher, while cutting power use by about 24%. Ray tracing sees an 18% uplift in performance, and frame rates in games can reach up to 185 frames per second.

Camera, AI & Efficiency Features

On the AI front, the second-generation Super Efficient NPU promises around 40% lower power draw while increasing performance and token generation per watt—crucial for sustainable on-device AI operations. The chip’s Imagiq 1290 image signal processor adds features such as native ultra-slow motion video at 4K/240fps, cinematic log captures at 4K/120fps, AI-based True Color Tone rendering, and smooth 60fps motion capture.

Also launching alongside is the Dimensity 9600M—a more affordable version that trades off UFS 5.0 storage and the top-tier C2 cores for solid flagship-level capability at lower cost.

One of the first devices expected to tap into this chip is Oppo’s Find X10 Pro Max, with announcement set for later this week. This will be a key test of how well the 9600 Pro performs in real phones.

The 2nm milestone sets MediaTek ahead of many rivals. By pairing groundbreaking process tech, CPU architecture, and memory/storage innovations, the 9600 Pro may redefine expectations for premium Android chipsets. The growing emphasis on efficient AI and high-frame-rate visuals points to what consumers will demand from high-end phones over the next few years. What to watch: real-world battery life, heat under load, and how partners integrate all these gains without compromising design or cost.
