In a significant move to democratize hardware development, Lovable, the AI-driven app-building platform, has invested in Danish startup Atech. This partnership aims to extend the concept of vibe coding—previously applied to software—to the hardware domain, simplifying the creation of hardware prototypes for a diverse range of users.

Atech recently secured an $800,000 pre-seed funding round, with contributions from Lovable, a16z’s scout fund, Sequoia Scout Fund, and Nordic Makers. This financial backing underscores the growing interest in making hardware development more accessible.

Gustav Hugod, Atech’s Head of Customer Experience, elaborated on the platform’s user-friendly approach. Customers begin by purchasing a starter hardware kit tailored to their project needs from Atech’s website. They then interact with an AI chatbot on the site, describing their hardware concept. The AI tool processes this input and generates the necessary code to build a functional prototype. Hugod highlighted the platform’s broad appeal, noting users range from young children constructing toy cars to industrial applications like hydrogen synthesis plants requiring precise voltage sensing.

Traditionally, developing hardware prototypes demanded extensive experience or the hiring of costly, skilled engineers. Hugod emphasized that as software development has become more accessible, hardware development should follow suit. In a democratized world, hardware has to be available to everyone, he stated. The newly acquired funds will be allocated to research and development, marketing efforts, and expanding the team.

This investment aligns with Lovable’s mission to simplify the creation process across technological domains. By supporting Atech, Lovable is extending its influence from software to hardware, aiming to make hardware development as intuitive and accessible as software development has become.
