iPhone 18 Pro’s New Colors May Face Durability Concerns

Apple’s upcoming iPhone 18 Pro is set to retain its aluminum alloy construction, a design choice that has raised concerns about potential durability issues, particularly regarding the device’s new color options. This decision follows similar challenges faced by the iPhone 17 Pro, which experienced notable wear and tear problems.

The iPhone 17 Pro’s anodized aluminum unibody design led to reports of surface durability issues shortly after its release. Users observed that certain color variants, such as Dark Blue and Cosmic Orange, were more susceptible to scratches and chipping. Additionally, some devices exhibited color shifts over time, with the Cosmic Orange model’s frame and camera plateau transitioning to a rose-gold or pink hue, prompting device replacements by Apple Support.

Despite these previous concerns, the iPhone 18 Pro is expected to continue using an aluminum alloy build. A leaker has cautioned that the new color options may be prone to paint peeling, advising potential buyers to be aware of this issue. The leaker also noted that while the aluminum alloy offers excellent heat dissipation, it may not provide the desired durability for the device’s finish.

Apple is rumored to introduce four color options for the iPhone 18 Pro: Dark Cherry, Light Blue, Dark Gray, and Silver. The Dark Cherry variant, described as a deep, wine-like red, is anticipated to be the signature color for this release. Notably, a black option is not expected for the second consecutive year, though the Dark Gray variant may serve as a close alternative.
