Apple is putting its brand-new iPhone 18 Pro front and center during this week’s Friday Night Baseball finale. The match-up between the San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers, airing September 18 at 7:15 p.m. PT, will show off the phone in ways never seen before during live sports broadcasts.
Where and How the iPhone 18 Pro Will Be Used
A total of 14 iPhone 18 Pros will be deployed across Dodger Stadium, embedded in spots like the pitch clock, backstop, foul pole, and both bullpens. Apple plans to capture everything from the action on the field to behind-the-scenes moments—batting practice, player introductions, dugout views—offering angles standard broadcast cameras typically can’t.
For real-time integration, eight of these phones will connect via a dedicated private 5G network provided by T-Mobile. This setup will allow live feeds to be sent straight into the broadcast without lag or delay.
A First in Sports Broadcasts, Evolving Quickly
Last year marked a milestone when the iPhone 17 Pro became the first smartphone used in a pro-baseball live broadcast, capturing unique perspectives with four devices and even earning one a place in the National Baseball Hall of Fame. This time, Apple is pushing further with more cameras and deeper integration through the iPhone 18 Pro.
The feature will be available for all viewers with an Apple TV subscription. For those without one, Apple TV is priced at $14.99 per month or bundled through the company’s Apple One service.
This moment isn’t just about showcasing flashy hardware—it reflects how sports media is evolving. Using iPhones embedded in the stadium structure suggests a trend toward immersive, multi-angled viewing experiences. Expect this to change viewers’ expectations of live sports broadcasts, and possibly push networks and venues to rethink how they integrate mobile tech and 5G infrastructure going forward.
