iPhone 18 Pro Max to Be Thicker and Heavier Than Predecessor

Apple’s forthcoming iPhone 18 Pro Max is anticipated to be both thicker and heavier than its predecessor, the iPhone 17 Pro Max. Reports suggest the device will measure approximately 9mm in thickness and weigh around 240 grams, marking an increase of 0.25mm and 7 grams, respectively.

This change is largely attributed to a larger battery capacity. Regulatory filings indicate the iPhone 18 Pro Max will house a 5,391mAh battery in China and a 5,567mAh battery in the U.S., nearly 500mAh more than the iPhone 17 Pro Max. Additionally, Apple is reportedly incorporating a new stainless steel vapor chamber, which may also contribute to the device’s increased weight.

Historically, Apple’s material choices have influenced device weight. The transition from stainless steel to titanium in the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro models resulted in lighter devices. However, the subsequent shift to aluminum in the iPhone 17 Pro models, combined with internal changes, led to a slight weight increase.

The iPhone 18 Pro Max is expected to launch alongside Apple’s first foldable iPhone this September. While the added thickness and weight may be noticeable, the enhancements in battery life and potential performance improvements could offer significant benefits to users.
