Initially launched with the iPhone 17 lineup, Dual Capture enabled users to record videos using both cameras concurrently. With iOS 27, this capability extends to FaceTime, allowing participants to share their surroundings while maintaining a personal connection through the front camera. This feature is available on iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and iPhone Air models.
Activating Dual Capture during a FaceTime call is straightforward. Users can tap the ‘Flip’ button on the camera viewfinder to enable the rear camera while keeping the front camera active. A second tap allows for disabling the front camera if desired. For the feature to function, both participants must be running iOS 27. While older iPhone models cannot utilize Dual Capture on their end, they can still view the dual-stream from compatible devices.
FaceTime, introduced in 2010 alongside the iPhone 4, has been a cornerstone of Apple’s communication suite, offering seamless video and audio calls across iOS, iPadOS, and macOS devices.
