Google’s New Mac App Turns Meeting Scribbles into Polished Notes Offline

Google is rolling out a Mac application called Google AI Edge Foresight, powered by its latest model EmbeddingGemma 2, aimed at transforming rough shorthand into refined notes—without sending your data to the cloud. This app listens quietly during live meetings, captures transcripts and audio, and refines your bullet-style jot-downs into coherent, fully formed notes, all processed locally on the device.

EmbeddingGemma 2: Local Multimodal Model for Smarter Notes

EmbeddingGemma 2, built on the Gemma 4 architecture, is a 740-million-parameter model offered under the open-source Apache 2.0 license. It’s designed to run efficiently within tight resource budgets: on Google’s Pixel 11 Pro, the text-only version uses around 191 MB of active RAM, while the full multimodal setup requires closer to 567 MB. These constraints make it capable of processing voice memos, video snippets, and more—on-device.

How AI Edge Foresight Works

In meetings—whether virtual or face-to-face—you can scribble shorthand notes of what you want to remember. AI Edge Foresight listens in the background and, using a transcript generated locally, turns those rough cues into cleaned-up notes in real time. It also lets you link to files stored locally or on Google Drive—project folders, diagrams, reference materials, calendars—to pull in relevant content seamlessly.

For deeper interaction, the app offers a chat-based retrieval and summary function rooted in your personal archive, plus a Live Assistance feature that can listen and answer questions automatically. Everything—the voice, transcript, chat, summaries—all stays on your Mac, safeguarding privacy.

Where AI Edge Foresight Fits In

This Mac app joins Google’s suite of Edge AI tools. It complements the AI Edge Gallery app (which shows demos for Android and iOS) and AI Edge Eloquent, an offline transcription tool. These tools highlight Google’s broader strategy to push intelligent, local-first ML models onto personal devices.

Why this matters: For professionals, students, and anyone constantly in meetings, AI Edge Foresight could be a game-changer. It reduces friction—no need to leave meetings to type full notes—and keeps sensitive content private by avoiding cloud uploads. It’s a strong example of on-device AI innovation.
