Google’s latest Pixel 11 series introduces a new feature called ‘Extreme Charging Mode,’ designed to accelerate both wired and wireless charging speeds. This enhancement aims to provide users with a rapid power boost when time is limited.
Historically, Google’s Pixel devices have not been renowned for their charging speeds. The Pixel 11 series offers ‘ultra-fast wired charging,’ achieving approximately 75% charge in 30 minutes for the Pro XL model, 55% for the Pixel 11 and Pixel 11 Pro, and 50% for the Pro Fold. These figures represent a modest improvement over previous models, with maximum charging capacities reaching around 30W to 45W, depending on the device.
Wireless charging has also seen significant upgrades. The entire Pixel 11 lineup now supports Qi2 wireless charging at 25W, a notable enhancement from the previous generation where only the Pixel 10 Pro XL supported 25W, with other models limited to 15W.
The standout addition is the ‘Extreme Charging Mode.’ This feature prioritizes the device’s performance towards charging, allowing for a faster energy boost when needed. By reducing background tasks and permitting the device to operate at higher temperatures during charging, this mode enhances the efficiency of power delivery. While it doesn’t surpass the existing 30W or 45W charging limits, it optimizes the charging process to utilize the available wattage more effectively before the system slows down to prevent overheating.
Users can activate ‘Extreme Charging Mode’ when the device’s battery level is below 50%. Once enabled, the mode remains active until the device reaches full charge. It is compatible with both wired and wireless charging methods. Activation can be done through the device’s Settings menu or via a Quick Settings tile for convenience.
The entire Pixel 11 series is currently available for pre-order, with ‘Extreme Charging Mode’ included across all four models. There is no confirmation on whether this feature will be extended to earlier Pixel models.
