Google is adding a new AI-powered feature called “Battery usage summaries” to its Pixel 10 and Pixel 11 phones. The aim is to translate battery stats into human-friendly summaries in the Battery usage page of supported devices, providing users with insights on which apps are consuming power and how today’s usage stacks up against recent averages. The update rolls out via the AI Core, and is enabled by default.
How it works
Once active, the summary appears at the top of the phone’s Battery usage page. It automatically analyses background app activity, identifies the biggest battery drains, and compares your battery use over the selected period with your recent typical usage. Essentially, it takes raw data—battery percentage used by apps, time running in background—and distills it into a short narrative that highlights the most important shifts or outliers.
The feature can be turned off: users can disable it by going to Settings → Battery & charging → Battery Usage → Battery usage summaries, selecting the overflow menu and toggling it off.
Availability & limits
The rollout is confirmed for Pixel 10 and Pixel 11 models. It relies on receiving the latest AI Core update from Google. Some Pixel 11 variants such as the Pro Fold and Pro XL already show the feature live. However, as of writing, the update hasn’t shown up on Pixel 10 or Pixel 10a units owned by editors who have manually updated their phones, suggesting staggered or phased availability.
While Google’s documentation states that the outputs will vary depending on usage patterns and that only the most “important info” is highlighted, examples shared so far show different tones depending on device activity. For instance, one screenshot from a Pixel 11 Pro Fold noted extremely light usage that day, while another example (not yet seen on Pixel 10 models) demonstrates summaries that call out which apps are most active.
If you already own a compatible Pixel and have received the AI Core update, you may see this feature soon—and you can choose whether to keep it.
“Battery usage summaries” reflects Google’s growing trend of infusing AI into device diagnostics, aiming to make system metrics more approachable rather than leaving users to parse charts and percentages themselves. Watch for more devices to gain this kind of AI-augmented insight as Google extends its updates. In the near term, the rollout to Pixel 10 models and possibly others will be key to determine how broadly helpful—and how accurate—these summaries prove in everyday use.
