Google Adds Pixel 9 Series to Certified Refurbished Line Starting at $499

Google has expanded the availability of its Pixel 9 lineup by adding officially refurbished versions of the phones to its Certified Refurbished program. This launch offers significant savings, with prices beginning at $499 — a drop from the product’s launch price of $799.

The Pixel 9, originally introduced in 2024, brought with it a refreshed design, upgraded Tensor chip, enhanced camera sensors, and the split into Pro tiers: the 6.3-inch Pixel 9 Pro and the larger 6.8-inch Pixel 9 Pro XL.

Refurbished Pricing and Offers

The refurb line features three models in Obsidian and Hazel color options: the base Pixel 9 for $499, the Pixel 9 Pro for $649, and the Pixel 9 Pro XL for $699. At launch, the base model sold for $799. Notably, stock for the base Pixel 9 seems limited, while the Pro and Pro XL remain available.

Buyers of these refurbished devices also receive a bundled perk: a six-month trial of Google AI Plus with 2TB of secure storage. New subscribers only; the trial becomes void if the device is returned. The offer expires April 4, 2027.

What Refurbished Means Here

Devices in the Certified Refurbished program undergo strict multi-point testing, are backed by a one-year warranty, and are repaired exclusively with genuine Google components. All units are fully unlocked and can work on any carrier. The refurb program first launched in late 2024 and regularly updates its inventory — removing phones that are approaching end-of-life for software support and adding newer models. In September 2026, Google removed the Pixel 7 series from the program.

As part of a broader pricing adjustment, the Pixel 8 lineup has also seen changes: the Pixel 8a is now $339, Pixel 8 at $389, and Pixel 8 Pro listed at $549.

The official refurbished Pixel offerings exclude the Pixel 9 Fold and are limited to the non-folding Pixel 9 series. The launch makes these flagship phones more accessible while maintaining quality and warranty standards.

This move signals a growing push by Google into the refurbished market — offering flagship experiences at lower price points while ensuring hardware and software standards remain high. Keep an eye on availability, especially for the base model, and whether future refurb launches continue this trend across more of Google’s lineup.
