Ferrari’s Luce EV Already Sold Out for 2027 Despite Harsh Criticism

Ferrari’s Luce — its first fully electric vehicle — has already sold out for the 2027 production run, despite facing widespread criticism since its debut. Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna revealed during the company’s Q3 2026 earnings call that every Luce planned for next year has been purchased, with first deliveries expected in Q4. The base price rings in around $615,000. If new buyers pop up now, they’ll need to wait a year for theirs.

A Polarizing Design Meets Strong Demand

The Luce sparked controversy when unveiled in May, drawing mockery and low approval, even contributing to a dip in Ferrari’s stock. Still, that backlash hasn’t hurt demand. Though the car hasn’t hit the road, customers have clearly committed. How many units Ferrari intends to build next year hasn’t been officially confirmed, but earlier reports estimate just under 500 for 2026 production.

Long-term goals call for the company to sell about 2,500 Luce EVs by 2030 — roughly 600 per year. When asked who’s buying, Vigna wouldn’t reveal specifics, saying only that the client mix is diverse across geography and type, with no clear buyer profile emerging yet.

Ferrari’s Financials Rise Alongside Customization Craze

Even though Luce deliveries haven’t kicked off yet, Ferrari’s broader business is booming. Revenue from customizations — special finishes and bespoke options — comprised over 21% of its Q3 revenue from cars and spare parts. That surge helped the company raise its full-year earnings projection, now expected to reach at least €3 billion, up from €2.97 billion.

Q3 revenue totaled €1.9 billion, up 7% year-over-year, while net income climbed 13% to €431 million. Operating profit landed at €563 million, yielding a margin of just under 30% — an impressive figure even among luxury automakers.

Ferrari is also riding high on demand for its limited-run hypercar, the F80, and other highly customized offerings. Clients’ push for unique, personalized vehicles has anchored a deepening strategy: making each car feel one-of-a-kind.

This is a significant moment for Ferrari. The Luce marks its boldest entry into electric vehicles yet — and even with sharp critique, the order books tell a different story. Deliveries begin Q4 2027, but the reactions now may shape future EV designs.
