Einride Expands Fleet with 500 Tesla Semis

Swedish electric and autonomous trucking company Einride has announced plans to acquire 500 Tesla Semi trucks, aiming to integrate these electric big rigs into its existing fleet over the next two years, starting in September. This strategic move is designed to enhance Einride’s service offerings to clients, including major corporations like Amazon.

Einride intends to manage the newly acquired Tesla Semis through its proprietary Saga AI fleet management platform. This system is engineered to provide customers with the advantages of electric freight transportation without the complexities and costs associated with vehicle ownership. According to Einride’s CEO, this deployment underscores the company’s capability to scale operations in line with customer demands.

The Tesla Semi, first unveiled as a concept in 2017, faced multiple production delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic and global supply chain disruptions. The initial batch was delivered to customers, including PepsiCo, five years later. In April 2026, Tesla commenced high-volume production of the Semi at its Nevada facility. However, the company has since tempered expectations regarding achieving full-scale production within the year, citing challenges in ramping up battery production, particularly concerning its 4680 cell technology.

For Einride, this acquisition represents a significant expansion, effectively tripling the size of its current fleet, which comprises approximately 200 heavy-duty electric trucks serving clients such as Heineken and PepsiCo. The addition of Tesla Semis is expected to bolster Einride’s electric freight network across key regions in North America, including California, Georgia, New Jersey, and Texas. The company has secured third-party financing to facilitate this purchase.

Furthermore, Einride anticipates that this investment will help convert around $800 million in potential long-term annual recurring revenue, as outlined in joint business plans with shippers, into actual revenue streams. This aligns with Einride’s broader strategy to scale its operations, a focus that has intensified in 2026.

Earlier this year, Einride entered into an agreement with Amazon to supply 75 electric heavy-duty trucks and establish charging infrastructure at five U.S. locations. Additionally, the company acquired EV charging firm Flipturn to offer a comprehensive suite of services, encompassing electric trucks and the necessary charging software to optimize their operation.

This development signifies a pivotal moment in the electric freight industry. Einride’s substantial investment in Tesla Semis not only underscores the growing demand for sustainable transportation solutions but also highlights the importance of strategic partnerships and technological integration in achieving scalable, efficient, and environmentally friendly logistics operations.
