Apple’s CarPlay continues to level up even before iOS 27 drops in September. August alone brought three significant app updates that enhance CarPlay’s functionality—new features for baseball fans, weather tracking, and conversational AI.
MLB app adds richer score & radio features
The major league baseball app has been updated mid-season to offer an improved CarPlay interface. Users will now be able to browse live and upcoming game schedules, pick a matchup, and tap in to their preferred team’s radio broadcast. During games, score updates and important game details display in real time—while respecting the “hide scores” setting for fans avoiding spoilers.
Meta AI joins the CarPlay chatbot club
Meta AI for iPhone has been rolled out with limited access on CarPlay, bringing its virtual assistant capabilities into Apple’s in-car ecosystem. This makes it one of several third-party chatbot options—including ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Grok—that now integrate with CarPlay. Though Meta AI’s CarPlay version appears to be in testing, it adds to the growing diversity of AI tools in the driver cockpit.
Storm Radar brings full weather support while you drive
The Weather Channel’s Storm Radar app now supports CarPlay with a detailed live-map interface. Features include satellite view, radar, cloud cover, precipitation, and more. The display also integrates current weather conditions, estimated time of arrival, and what the forecast looks like at your destination. Route alerts, automatic rerouting around bad weather, and real-time updates while driving are also part of the upgrade.

iOS 27 is on track to bring additional enhancements to CarPlay system-wide. Meanwhile, select Volvo SUVs have already gained CarPlay support for Spatial Audio via Apple Music and Podcasts, including Dolby Atmos sound. Early aftermarket units from Pioneer similarly support immersive audio through CarPlay.
