Apple is reportedly planning to increase the display sizes for its upcoming iPhone 20 series, with prototypes featuring 6.4-inch and 7-inch screens currently in development. This move would mark a significant shift from the current iPhone 17 Pro Max, which boasts a 6.86-inch display.
The 7-inch model, while marketed as such, is expected to have an actual screen size of 6.96 inches. This slight increase from the existing 6.86-inch display may seem modest, but it represents a noticeable enhancement in screen real estate. The last major screen size update occurred in 2024 when the iPhone 16 Pro Max expanded from 6.7 inches to 6.9 inches, and the iPhone 16 Pro grew from 6.1 inches to 6.3 inches.
In addition to larger screens, Apple is rumored to be collaborating with Samsung to develop a new quad-curved OLED display for the iPhone 20. This design would feature subtle curves on all four edges, aiming to provide a more immersive viewing experience while minimizing accidental touches—a common issue with more pronounced curved screens.
Further supporting these design changes, reports indicate that Apple has returned to a glass-centric design for the iPhone 20. A production facility has been renovated to accommodate this shift, with Biel Crystal identified as the primary supplier, alongside BYD and Lens Technology. This suggests a significant redesign reminiscent of the iPhone X’s departure from previous models.
As Apple approaches the 20th anniversary of the iPhone, these developments hint at a substantial evolution in both design and functionality. The combination of larger displays, innovative screen technology, and a return to glass construction indicates Apple’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of smartphone design.
