Recent reports suggest that Apple is testing reverse wireless charging capabilities for its upcoming iPhone 17 Pro models. This feature would enable the iPhone to wirelessly charge other Apple devices, such as AirPods, Apple Watch, or potentially a new MagSafe Battery Pack.
The concept of reverse wireless charging isn’t new. Apple first introduced a limited version of this feature with the MagSafe Battery Pack for iPhone 12 and newer models. When attached to an iPhone that was charging via Lightning, the iPhone could deliver power to the MagSafe Battery Pack. However, this feature was discontinued with the launch of the iPhone 15 series, which transitioned from Lightning to USB-C.
Now, the iPhone 17 Pro is reportedly being tested with a 7.5W reverse wireless charging feature, which would allow users to charge their accessories wirelessly, providing greater convenience and flexibility. This development aligns with previous rumors and leaks suggesting that Apple has been exploring this technology for some time.
While the feature is still in the testing phase, it remains uncertain whether it will be enabled on the devices when they officially launch. Apple is expected to release its iPhone 17 lineup around mid-September 2025. The iPhone 17 Pro models are also rumored to feature significant design changes, including a horizontal, bar-shaped camera bump and a part-aluminum, part-glass back panel.
In addition to reverse wireless charging, the iPhone 17 Pro is expected to come with several other upgrades. These include the new A19 Pro chip based on an improved 3nm process, offering better performance and energy efficiency, along with 12GB of RAM, a potential vapor chamber cooling system, and internally built Wi-Fi chips. Design-wise, the phone may feature a slimmer Dynamic Island, a two-tone back similar to the Pixel 9, and a thicker body. It might come in four colors: orange, blue, black, and white.
Camera improvements could include a 48MP telephoto lens, 8x optical zoom, a variable aperture lens, and dual video capture. However, there is conflicting information about the zoom range. The battery may support easier removal due to new adhesive and could debut Apple-manufactured cells with improved performance. The iPhone 17 Pro might also introduce reverse charging and faster Qi2 50W wireless charging. It will run iOS 26, featuring a new “Liquid Glass” design interface and incremental Apple Intelligence (AI) updates.
