Apple’s All-Glass 20th Anniversary iPhone Remains on Track for 2027

Recent reports have reaffirmed that Apple’s ambitious all-glass iPhone, slated for the device’s 20th anniversary in 2027, is progressing as planned. Despite earlier claims suggesting the project’s cancellation, credible sources indicate that development is actively underway.

Chinese leaker Digital Chat Station has provided insights into the device, revealing that it will be available in two sizes, corresponding to the Pro and Pro Max variants. These models are internally codenamed V73 and V74. Notably, the displays have increased in physical size while maintaining the same aspect ratio. This design utilizes a flat 2D display combined with a glass cover, leveraging the glass’s optical refraction to create a borderless visual effect.

This description aligns with previous reports that the device will feature glass on both the front and back, with the material curving into the sides, leaving only a slim metal band in the middle. Such a design aims to deliver a seamless, edge-to-edge display experience.

Further details suggest that Apple is testing a slightly larger 6.96-inch display for the Pro Max variant. The OLED panel’s increased size allows the display to curve further into the device’s edges, while the chassis remains comparable in size to the current iPhone 17 Pro Max.

Earlier this week, Jefferies analyst Edison Lee claimed that Apple’s all-glass iPhone project had been canceled. However, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman quickly refuted this, stating that the glass-centric redesign is still on track for 2027. Gurman did note that Apple had considered a more ambitious version with even more extensive use of glass, which was scrapped early in development. It’s possible that Lee’s report referred to this more aspirational design.
