Apple Wallet’s Car Key Feature Expands to GWM’s Tank Vehicles

Apple’s Car Key feature, which allows users to lock, unlock, and start their vehicles using an iPhone or Apple Watch, is reportedly set to expand to Great Wall Motors’ (GWM) Tank lineup. This development was identified through backend code indicating upcoming support for GWM’s Tank models.

GWM, a prominent Chinese automaker, offers several models under the Tank brand, including the Tank 300, Tank 400, Tank 500, and Tank 700. These vehicles already support Apple CarPlay, enhancing the in-car entertainment and navigation experience for Apple users. The anticipated integration of Car Key functionality would further streamline vehicle access and operation for iPhone and Apple Watch users.

Apple’s Car Key feature has been progressively adopted by various automakers. In 2025, Apple announced that 13 additional vehicle brands would adopt Car Keys, including GWM-owned Wey, alongside Acura, Cadillac, Chery, Chevrolet, GMC, Hongqi, Lucid, Porsche, Rivian, Smart, Tata Motors, and Voyah. This expansion reflects a growing trend among automakers to integrate digital key technologies, offering users a more seamless and secure method of vehicle access.

As of now, over 800 car models support Apple CarPlay, with 52 of these models also compatible with the Car Key feature. The inclusion of GWM’s Tank vehicles would further increase this number, providing more consumers with the convenience of digital car keys.

The integration of Car Key functionality into GWM’s Tank lineup signifies a broader industry shift towards digitalization and enhanced user convenience. As more automakers adopt such technologies, consumers can expect a more interconnected and user-friendly driving experience. This trend also underscores the importance of collaboration between tech companies and automotive manufacturers in delivering innovative solutions to the market.
