Apple HomeView, Apple TV 4K & HomePod mini 2: Smart Home Just Leveled Up

Apple’s latest smart home lineup showcases HomeView, the fourth-generation Apple TV 4K, and the refreshed HomePod mini with bold new features and deeper integration. These three devices represent a renewed push to make the Apple Home ecosystem more visually rich, more intelligent, and more immersive.

HomeView: A New Smart Display Hub for Your Connected Home

The new Apple HomeView is a cross between a control center and a smart display, available in standard and wall-mounted versions. The unit features a 7-inch square Liquid Retina IPS touchscreen with a resolution of 1088×1088 at 220 ppi, True Tone, oleophobic coating, and a display brightness range from roughly 500 nits down to 0.3 in dark environments. Hardware includes an A18 chip, 12-MP Center Stage camera, four microphones arranged for far-field Siri, and both ambient light and temperature/humidity sensors. Each version requires constant power; the standard model includes a USB-C cable and adapter, while the wall-mounted version omits the mount and adapter, sold separately.

Audio in HomeView is handled by two full-range drivers, a dedicated down-firing woofer, and dual passive radiators. Spatial Audio, Dolby Atmos, and computational audio features are supported, along with AirPlay and Siri AI. The unit’s software allows it to run built-in and third-party apps, and it interacts with other Home devices once paired with iPhone or iPad devices running the latest OS versions.

Apple TV 4K (4th Generation): Smarter, Faster, More Immersive

The refreshed Apple TV 4K packs a punch with the new A19 chip, delivering up to 50 percent faster CPU performance and twice the graphics capability compared to its predecessor. This update also adds built-in far-field microphones for voice control, enabling hands-free interactions using Siri AI. Moreover, the new Siri Remote includes Precision Finding and an internal speaker so you can locate it via audio cues when misplaced.

This generation of Apple TV brings a surround-sound capability when paired with four HomePod mini 2 or HomePod 2 units. The devices work together to map the audio environment, calibrating timing and levels based on speaker placement. For streaming fans, Apple TV 4K’s new AV1 decoder aims to reduce bandwidth while delivering high-quality visuals.

HomePod mini 2: Visual Touches, AI, and Color Revamp

Six years after the original, the HomePod mini 2 adds several upgrades. At its core is the upgraded S10 chip, which enables computational audio that dynamically adjusts loudness, range, and acoustic detail. Siri AI makes its debut on this device, offering broader knowledge, understanding of personal context, and natural conversational capabilities. That said, full Siri AI functionality is expected in a software update, not at launch.

Visually, the HomePod mini 2 stands out with a new “Sound Glow” feature: the touch-sensitive top glows and pulses in time with music, using color cues drawn from album artwork. Connectivity upgrades include Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 6, replacing older standards. External changes include three far-field microphones (one fewer than the original), fresh colors—midnight, pink, green, blue, white—and support for being set as a default speaker on Mac. The price has risen to $149 in the U.S., with pre-orders beginning immediately and units shipping October 30.

With HomeView, Apple TV 4K (4th gen), and HomePod mini 2 arriving near simultaneously, Apple is reinforcing its vision for a connected home. Each device leans heavily into AI, both for voice interaction and smart integrations across devices. They also aim to blur lines between visual display, ambient sound, and environmental awareness. What remains to be seen is how well these devices integrate in real home setups—and whether the price increases will temper demand.
