Apple’s Health App Introduces Perimenopause Detection Feature
Apple has unveiled a significant enhancement to its Health app, introducing perimenopause and menopause support within its existing cycle-tracking feature. This announcement was made during the company’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2026, underscoring Apple’s commitment to advancing women’s health technology.
Since the introduction of the cycle tracker in 2019, Apple has been dedicated to providing women with tools to monitor their menstrual cycles and fertility. The latest update builds upon this foundation by addressing perimenopause—a transitional phase leading up to menopause characterized by hormonal fluctuations and various physical and emotional symptoms.
The inclusion of perimenopause support in the Health app reflects a broader cultural shift, with increased awareness and discussion about this life stage across social media platforms and mainstream media. This heightened visibility presents both a product opportunity and a growing market, as research indicates that approximately 1.1 billion women worldwide were postmenopausal as of last year.
Apple’s new feature is designed to notify users when their cycle patterns suggest the onset of perimenopause. Stacey Ford, Apple’s Vice President of OS Product Management, explained that the feature allows users to log symptoms and access educational resources, enabling them to better understand bodily changes and facilitate informed discussions with healthcare providers.
This development aligns with a broader trend in the digital health sector, where companies are increasingly focusing on women’s health. For instance, earlier this year, Midi Health, a company specializing in perimenopause and menopause care, secured $100 million in a Series D funding round, achieving a $1 billion valuation.
Apple’s initiative to integrate perimenopause detection into its Health app signifies a proactive approach to addressing the needs of women navigating this transitional phase. By leveraging technology to provide personalized health insights, Apple aims to empower users with the knowledge and tools necessary to manage their health effectively.
