App Store Ecosystem Hits $1.4 Trillion in 2025, 90% Commission-Free

Apple’s App Store ecosystem generated $1.4 trillion in developer billings and sales in 2025, with over 90% of this revenue being commission-free, according to a study by Analysis Group. This marks a near tripling of the ecosystem’s size since 2019.

Apple CEO Tim Cook emphasized the role of developers, stating, “Developers are the heartbeat of the App Store, and this year’s incredible milestone is a testament to their boundless creativity.”

Notably, apps incorporating consumer-facing AI features experienced four times more growth in billings compared to other apps. Apple defines the App Store ecosystem as encompassing iOS apps downloaded through the App Store, including a small number of downloads from alternative marketplaces or direct from developers’ websites in certain jurisdictions, as these apps still rely on Apple’s services.

As reported by 9to5Mac, this substantial growth underscores the App Store’s pivotal role in the global digital economy and highlights the increasing importance of AI integration in app development.
