Google has begun rolling out version 7.14 of its Clock app for Android devices, introducing subtle yet notable visual enhancements that align with the company’s evolving Material 3 design language. This update follows the previous release in April and brings two primary changes: updated toggle switches and redesigned weather condition icons.
Material 3 Toggle Switches
In this latest version, the Clock app adopts the newest Material 3 switches, which are slightly taller and narrower than their predecessors. The ‘off’ state now features bolder outlines and a less prominent circular handle, enhancing visual clarity. These updated toggles are present in both the Alarm tab and the Settings menu, providing a more cohesive and modern user interface. While Material 3 components have been available since 2022, their integration into first-party apps has been gradual, making this update a significant step in Google’s design evolution.
Redesigned Weather Condition Icons
The World Clock tab now showcases an updated set of weather condition icons. Departing from traditional colored representations, such as a yellow sun, the new icons are rendered in gray. This monochromatic approach offers a more subtle and less distracting visual experience, though it may require users to pay closer attention when quickly scanning the list. This change aligns with the upcoming Android 16 QPR1 redesign, aiming for a more unified aesthetic across Google’s ecosystem.
Additional Features and Availability
The Timer Starter widget, introduced in previous updates, remains exclusive to Pixel devices and is not yet available on third-party Android phones. This widget allows users to start one of their last three timers or create a new one directly from the home screen, enhancing convenience and functionality.
Google Clock 7.14 is gradually rolling out via the Play Store and is expected to become widely available in the coming days. Users are encouraged to update their app to experience these latest enhancements.
