Apple Music Classical Gets Sleek Black-and-White Icon Update

Apple has quietly rolled out a visual overhaul for the Apple Music Classical app, aligning it with the recent branding changes made to Apple Music. The update brings a new black-and-white icon and refined in-app color design, highlighting the company’s move toward a more unified and minimalist aesthetic.

Icon Redesign: Black Symbol on White Canvas

The G-clef symbol remains front and center, but the fresh icon drops its colorful background in favor of a stark white backdrop with a black musical symbol. In contrast to the flat look adopted for the main Apple Music icon, the Classical app preserves depth through subtle lighting, shading, and translucent effects that give it a three-dimensional feel.

Interface Changes & Branding Alignment

Beyond the app icon, the update replaces red accent buttons inside Apple Music Classical with a blue tone more in line with Apple’s broader app palette. This change mirrors the recent Apple Music rebranding, which introduced a more colorful campaign complete with visuals using sound waves to animate water, while the core app icons are monochrome. These shifts indicate that Apple is committed to maintaining the black-and-white look for its key music apps across the board.

Access to Apple Music Classical still requires an active Apple Music subscription, priced at US$11.99 per month with a one-month free trial. It is also available via the Apple One bundle.

Why this update matters: it’s more than a cosmetic tweak. The icon swap and interface refresh reflect Apple’s branding strategy, reinforcing design consistency across its music offerings while embracing minimalism. For users, the black-and-white design likely enhances visual clarity and strengthens recognition across devices, especially in contextual settings where color might distract or clash.
