Apple’s iOS 27.3 beta—currently rolling out to developers and public testers—packs some of the biggest changes since the initial iOS 27 launch. From Siri growth to major health app redesigns and new audio features for Apple Watch, this update hints at a more AI-driven, personalized user experience. Here’s what’s new and what it all means.
Siri AI Gets Smarter—and More Useful
The update expands Siri’s abilities dramatically across Apple’s built-in apps. Soon you’ll be able to ask Siri to unsubscribe from mailing lists, undo sent messages, manage browser tabs (including closing duplicates), clear Safari history, and clean up files that haven’t been accessed in a while. These actions are available in Mail, Files, Weather, Notes, Maps, Safari, Photos, Music, Reminders, and more. Siri AI also gains support for Traditional Chinese, Vietnamese, Turkish, and Norwegian in this beta. Plus, developers can build custom actions and skills via App Intents to make Siri more flexible with cross-app tasks.
Redesigned Health App: Insights, Longevity & Health Age
The often-leaked but now arriving “redesigned Health app” is back—this time with two main new tabs: Insights and Longevity. Insights surfaces real-time metrics like sleep, heart rate, activity rings, and vitals, and feeds patterns into personalized guidance. Longevity looks at long-term trends across sleep, nutrition, movement, metabolic health, hearing, mental well-being, and more. A standout is Health Age, which compares your biometric and lifestyle data—think resting heart rate, VO₂ max, HRV, sleep score, labs—to see how you stack up against your actual age.
New Features for iPhone Duo & StandBy Mode Changes
For iPhone Duo users, one-handed interaction improves via a new Reachability mode—swipe left or right on the outer display to shift content closer to your thumb. The keyboard layout gets updates with taller keys, a wider spacebar, and less bold lettering. Meanwhile, StandBy mode—which displays clock, calendar, weather, and photo faces in landscape view while charging—expands customization to more iPhones. Users can now create multiple faces of the same type and swipe between them, apply color and complication options, and enjoy revamped face designs beyond iPhone Duo.
Apple Watch, Fitness+, and Global Expansions
Audio Intelligence features arrive with watchOS 27.3 alongside iOS 27.3. Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 wearers get Live Rewind, which lets you view the last 15 seconds of speech as text, and Siri Recap, which generates summaries of conversations automatically—useful for missing details in meetings. Fitness+ gets a “Gym Strength” plan, a four-week custom routine built around your equipment, schedule, and goals—complete with short form videos to guide proper form.
On the global front, China finally gains several Apple Intelligence features—things like Live Translation, Visual Intelligence, Writing Tools, and Genmoji—but Siri AI remains unavailable there for now. The beta also adds earthquake early-warning alerts through China’s Earthquake Networks Center. Freeform gets new image tools and text styles, Apple Music introduces Selfie Sing karaoke videos, and Control Center now allows switching between different VPNs directly.
Why This Matters: iOS 27.3 isn’t just another minor update. It delivers wide-reaching AI enhancements—from Siri’s expanded toolkit to smartwatch features that aim to make devices more context-aware. The Health app redesign shifts Apple’s strategy from tracking metrics to interpreting them in a way users can act on. Watch for a public launch in December, when these features—especially Health Age, the new Siri actions, and audio intelligence—will begin redefining bigger parts of the iPhone and Apple Watch experience.
