Apple has introduced a refreshed 24-inch iMac that swaps in the new M6 chip, delivering major internal upgrades while keeping the same sleek design users are familiar with. The new model targets performance gains across CPU, GPU, storage, and AI tasks.
What’s New With the M6 iMac
The refreshed iMac still sports its 24-inch display and classic all-in-one form factor, but the internals now center around Apple’s M6 silicon. That includes a 12-core CPU, a 12-core GPU, and a dual 16-core Neural Engine—a step up from the previous iMac’s configuration, which maxed out at 10 CPU cores, 10 GPU cores, and a 16-core Neural Engine.
Benchmarks promised relative to the outgoing model are substantial: up to 40% faster CPU performance, graphics that run twice as fast, storage boosts of 2×, and AI workloads estimated to be 4× quicker.
Other Spec Highlights & Availability
The new iMac also includes the N1 wireless chip among its upgrades. Despite the internal enhancements, pricing stays the same—starting at $1,499. Preorders kick off October 28 at 10:10 a.m. PT, with the iMac expected to ship beginning Friday, November 6.
This launch comes as part of a broader Apple product rollout, following yesterday’s reveal of a new OLED iPad mini and coinciding with expected updates to the MacBook Pro. The iMac’s refresh focuses on raw performance more than design changes—users get significantly more power without paying more or sacrificing familiar design aspects.
What this means: For creative professionals, developers, and anyone relying on heavy computational workloads, the M6 iMac could be a compelling upgrade. The performance gains in AI and graphics suggest Apple is leaning further into its promise of seamless integration between hardware and machine learning.
