Apple has re-emerged in TIME’s “World’s Best Companies 2026” rankings, landing the No. 3 spot after being entirely absent from last year’s list. The company previously held the top position in 2024 but dropped off in 2025, amidst concerns over declining revenue and lagging AI efforts. Today’s return comes with a strong overall score of 93.16.
How Apple staged its comeback
The separation between Apple’s 2024 victory and its 2025 absence was rooted in financial performance. Between 2022 and 2024, revenue dipped, prompting scrutiny from analysts over whether Apple was losing ground in artificial intelligence. But things shifted. By July 2026, after the period evaluated by TIME, Apple had posted a 10% year-over-year revenue increase—the company’s strongest growth since 2021. During its Q3 earnings call, leadership emphasized major new investments in AI, integrating machine learning across its hardware and platforms.
What TIME’s rankings reveal this year
TIME’s ranking uses three equally weighted metrics: employee satisfaction, revenue growth over the past three years, and transparency in sustainability. Apple rated “Very High” in revenue growth, the top tier in the four-level scale. On employee satisfaction, it landed third, trailing Microsoft and IBM. But its sustainability transparency rank fell sharply to 24th place, a steep drop from its first-place spot in Transparency two years ago.
Leading the list overall was Nvidia with a score of 97.51, followed by Cigna at 94.37, and then Apple. Rounding out the top 10 were Meta Platforms in fourth, AstraZeneca, Microsoft, Deutsche Telekom, Accenture, McKesson, and AMD.
This return to prominence underscores Apple’s renewed momentum. The boost in revenue growth, coupled with enhanced AI commitments, appears to have tipped the scales back in its favor after a challenging stretch. However, the slide in sustainability scores suggests there’s work to be done to restore its environmental and governance leadership.
