Google Pixel 11 Adopts MediaTek Modem for Enhanced Performance

Google’s latest Pixel 11 series introduces the Tensor G6 chipset, marking a significant shift with the integration of a MediaTek modem. This move departs from the previous reliance on Samsung’s Exynos modems, which had been associated with network performance issues, battery drain, and overheating in earlier Pixel models.

The new MediaTek modem, identified as the M90, boasts peak downlink speeds of 12Gbps and supports dual 5G SIM dual-active functionality. Additionally, it incorporates AI models designed to enhance power efficiency and device performance, along with satellite connectivity support—a feature that aligns with the capabilities expected in flagship smartphones.

Google asserts that this modem is more reliable, faster, and energy-efficient compared to its predecessors. These claims are based on tests conducted with pre-production devices under controlled laboratory conditions. While these initial results are promising, real-world performance will ultimately determine the modem’s effectiveness.

Historically, the Exynos modems used in earlier Pixel models faced criticism for subpar network performance and overheating issues. The transition to MediaTek’s modem in the Pixel 11 series reflects Google’s commitment to addressing these concerns and enhancing user experience.
