Apple TV+ has announced its second collaboration with Academy Award-winning director Alfonso Cuarón, greenlighting a new psychological horror thriller series titled ‘Ascension.’ This follows their previous partnership on the 2024 thriller series ‘Disclaimer.’
‘Ascension’ is inspired by Adam Nevill’s novel ‘Last Days’ and centers on Rose, a dedicated documentary filmmaker and recently divorced mother. While adept at uncovering others’ truths, Rose struggles with her own personal challenges. Her latest project delves into the enigmatic 20th-century cult known as the Church of Ascension. As she immerses herself in the cult’s teachings, she finds solace, only to uncover a more sinister reality beneath the surface. The series aims to explore themes of evil, innocence, and the lengths individuals will go to protect their loved ones, even when the greatest threat may be themselves.
In addition to Cuarón’s involvement, ‘Ascension’ will feature Caitríona Balfe, marking her second project with Apple. Balfe is also set to appear in Apple Original Films’ ‘Tenzing.’
The series will be produced by Anonymous Content, known for their work on the upcoming ‘Neuromancer’ series, slated for a January 2027 premiere on Apple TV+, and the heist drama ’12 12 12.’
