Waymo has expanded its autonomous ride-hailing service in Dallas, removing the waitlist and allowing all residents and visitors to access its robotaxis. This move is part of the company’s broader strategy to scale its self-driving technology across various regions.
Previously, Waymo’s service in Dallas was accessible only to users who had joined a waitlist. During this initial phase, approximately 150,000 riders utilized the Waymo app to hail rides. Now, anyone can download the app and immediately request a ride within the city.
However, the service currently does not include Dallas Love Field Airport. Waymo is actively testing its vehicles at the airport and plans to offer rides to and from this location in the near future.
Waymo’s presence in Dallas began last year with public road testing, leading up to the service launch in early 2026. The company partnered with Avis Budget Group to manage its fleet of all-electric autonomous Jaguar I-Pace vehicles, with Avis handling operations such as charging and maintenance.
In May, Waymo temporarily paused its services in Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, and Atlanta due to challenges its vehicles faced in heavy rain and flooded conditions. While services have resumed, Waymo indicates that operations may be adjusted or paused in response to severe weather or flood warnings. Users can check the current status of the service through the Waymo app.
