Google is introducing a significant redesign to its voice search functionality on Android devices, aiming to provide a more cohesive and intuitive user experience. This update integrates various features such as AI Mode, Search Live, and Song Search into a unified interface.
Previously, activating voice search via the microphone icon in the Google widget or app would transcribe user queries and display standard search results. Additionally, a shortcut for Song Search was available. The new design introduces a bottom toolbar, reminiscent of Google Lens’s interface, allowing users to seamlessly switch between Search, AI Mode, Search Live, and Song Search.
In the updated interface, the Search function now features a four-bar waveform animation, with real-time transcription appearing at the top as users speak. After completing an AI Mode query, users can tap a forward arrow to proceed, while a stop button on the left directs them to a search box containing the transcript for further editing. Search Live maintains its conversational experience, and the Song Search functionality remains unchanged.
Notably, the system remembers the last-used mode, defaulting to either Search or AI Mode based on user preference. This redesign is currently being rolled out in the beta version of the Google app and is expected to become widely available in the near future.
