Fortnite Returns to iPhone in Brazil via Epic Games Store

Fortnite has made its comeback on iPhones in Brazil with the launch of the Epic Games Store. This development allows Brazilian players to access Fortnite and Rocket League Sideswipe directly through Epic’s platform. Notably, purchases made within Fortnite via the Epic Games Store offer a 20% rebate in Epic Rewards, a discount structure not permitted under Apple’s App Store policies in Brazil.

However, the process to install the Epic Games Store on iPhones involves a nine-step procedure, which Epic Games criticizes as intentionally cumbersome. The company argues that Apple’s policies are designed to hinder competition by imposing anti-competitive fees, presenting intimidating warning screens, and prohibiting alternative app stores on iPads.

Epic Games has communicated these concerns to Brazil’s competition regulator, highlighting the negative impact of such restrictions on fostering a competitive mobile app ecosystem on iOS devices. This situation mirrors challenges Epic has faced in other regions, such as Japan, where similar obstacles have been encountered.

The return of Fortnite to iOS devices in Brazil is part of Epic Games’ broader strategy to reintroduce its titles to various markets following legal disputes with Apple. Previously, Fortnite was removed from the App Store in August 2020 after Epic implemented a direct payment system, bypassing Apple’s in-app purchase mechanism. This led to a protracted legal battle over App Store policies and developer rights.

In May 2025, Fortnite reappeared on the U.S. App Store after a federal court injunction required Apple to modify its App Store rules concerning payments and commissions. The game’s reinstatement in the U.S. was accompanied by a new payment option, allowing players to choose between Apple’s in-app purchase system and Epic’s direct payment method, which offered additional rewards.

Similarly, in May 2026, Fortnite became available on iPhones in Japan through the Epic Games Store. This expansion was facilitated by regulatory changes that permitted third-party app stores on iOS devices in certain regions.

Epic Games’ ongoing efforts to reintroduce Fortnite across various markets underscore the company’s commitment to challenging Apple’s App Store policies and advocating for more open and competitive app distribution platforms. The situation in Brazil highlights the complexities and regional variations in app store regulations and the ongoing tensions between major tech companies and developers seeking greater autonomy.
