Spotify has unveiled a new feature called Running Mode, designed to enhance the running experience for iOS users by offering personalized music playlists tailored to individual workout preferences and tempos.
Initially available to Premium subscribers in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and Sweden, Running Mode can be accessed through the Fitness Hub within the Spotify app. Users can select from 25 curated running presets and customize their workouts by specifying the type (such as interval, steady, or pyramid), duration, beats per minute (BPM), and preferred music genres. Once configured, Spotify generates a playlist that aligns with the user’s workout parameters.
To further assist runners, Running Mode includes optional audio cues in English, providing guidance throughout the workout. This feature builds upon Spotify’s existing Prompted Playlists and guided workout offerings, aiming to deliver a more immersive and motivating exercise experience.
By integrating personalized music with workout routines, Spotify’s Running Mode seeks to cater to the growing demand for fitness-focused digital experiences. As the feature rolls out, it will be interesting to see how it influences user engagement and whether it prompts similar innovations from competitors in the music streaming industry.
