Bluesky’s AI assistant, Attie, has introduced a new feature called Quests, transforming it into an open-ended research tool for the platform’s users. This enhancement allows individuals to pose questions and gather information from the broader Bluesky social network, known as the Atmosphere, which encompasses Bluesky and any application integrated with the AT Protocol.
Initially launched in March, Attie enabled users to design custom social feeds without requiring programming skills. The addition of Quests expands its functionality, permitting users to inquire about trending topics or identify influential accounts within specific fields or locations. This development aims to help users navigate the vast amount of information available on the platform more effectively.
Bluesky’s user growth has experienced a slowdown over the past eight months. After doubling its user base to 40 million last October, the platform now reports approximately 45.6 million registered accounts. In response, the company is exploring tools and services like Attie to attract new users and explore potential monetization strategies.
Jay Graber, Bluesky’s Chief Innovation Officer, emphasized the importance of providing users with tools to discern information amidst the proliferation of misinformation. She stated that Attie aims to reduce the barriers to entry and expertise required to utilize the AT Protocol, empowering users to customize their experience.
Currently in beta, the new Attie experience is accessible to users via a waitlist, with invitations being distributed over the coming weeks. Despite some community skepticism towards AI, Bluesky is balancing these concerns with the necessity to generate revenue and sustain the development of the AT Protocol.
In March, Bluesky announced it had secured $100 million in funding from a round that closed in 2025, providing the company with the resources to experiment with initiatives like Attie and explore other services, such as premium subscriptions or tools for power users.
The expansion of Attie into a research tool signifies Bluesky’s commitment to enhancing user engagement and information accessibility within its decentralized social network. As the platform continues to evolve, it will be crucial to observe how these innovations impact user growth and the broader adoption of decentralized social media platforms.
