Microsoft 365 Outage Disrupts Teams, SharePoint, and More

On July 23, 2026, a significant outage affected Microsoft 365 services, disrupting access to key applications such as Microsoft Teams, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, Copilot Chat, Microsoft Purview, and Power BI. The incident primarily impacted users in North America, leading to widespread reports of service degradation.

According to data from Downdetector, user reports of issues began to surge around 11:11 a.m. ET, with a peak of 2,403 complaints. SharePoint users accounted for 78% of these reports, encountering generic “Something went wrong” errors when attempting to access files. Excel and OneDrive users also experienced intermittent access problems. Microsoft acknowledged the issue under incident ID MO1437424 in the Microsoft 365 Admin Center and initiated an investigation into the root cause.

The company identified a recent network configuration change as a potential contributor to the outage. In response, Microsoft began reverting this change and implemented traffic rerouting to alternative network paths to restore service availability. By 12:06 a.m. IST on July 24, Microsoft confirmed that the network configuration had been reverted, and telemetry indicated that services were recovering.

This outage underscores the critical importance of maintaining robust and resilient cloud infrastructure. As businesses increasingly rely on cloud-based services, ensuring the stability and reliability of these platforms is paramount. Organizations should also develop comprehensive contingency plans to mitigate the impact of potential service disruptions.
