Qualcomm’s Expanding Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Lineup: What to Expect

Qualcomm is set to expand its Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 series with multiple new chipsets, including the high-end ‘Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro.’ This addition introduces a ‘Pro’ variant to the existing lineup, aiming to deliver enhanced performance for premium devices.

The ‘Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro’ (model SM8975) is expected to feature a 2+3+3 Oryon core configuration, higher clock speeds, an Adreno 850 GPU, 16GB GMEM, and support for LPDDR6/5X memory. Built on a 2nm process, this chipset is designed to offer significant performance improvements over its predecessors.

In addition to the ‘Pro’ variant, Qualcomm plans to release several other chipsets:

  • Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 (SM8950): This standard version will share the 2+3+3 core configuration but will include a less powerful GPU, lack LPDDR6 support, and come with 12GB GMEM.
  • Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Variant (SM8850Q): A new iteration of the existing Gen 5 series, built on a 3nm process.
  • SM8845 Pro: This chipset could be branded as either ‘Snapdragon 8 Gen 6’ or ‘Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 Pro,’ also utilizing a 3nm process.

These developments indicate Qualcomm’s strategy to diversify its flagship offerings, providing options tailored to various performance needs and device categories. The introduction of a ‘Pro’ variant suggests a focus on catering to ultra-premium smartphones that demand top-tier specifications.

As Qualcomm continues to innovate, the expanded Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 lineup reflects the company’s commitment to meeting the evolving demands of the mobile market. Consumers can anticipate devices equipped with these new chipsets to debut in the coming months, offering a range of performance levels to suit different preferences and budgets.
